Ubuntu

Ubuntu Logo Finally, I have Ubuntu :) It certainly took long enough for me to get it. After trying Mepis, FC4, FC5, and an unsucessful install of KUbuntu, I have landed the perfect linux distro :)

Why do I like Ubuntu? Mepis was very easy to install, however I must have missed something because it zapped my windows partition. No fun. Once I got Mepis running, I wasn't very impressed with the interface. It really didn't have all that much going for it except for the cute Kde aquarium running in the tray.

FC4/FC5 – couldn't get it to do anything. Updates wouldn't start properly, and if they did it would take hours upon hours to complete. A lot of things wouldn't run from the terminal window either. Maybe it was a crummy install, but I did try both versions a few times and made sure to get the updates that I could.

KUbuntu….the CD that I have is flawed – it won't install one of the directories. However, I recently learned that when running KDE you are using up tons of memory. I guess I don't need shinny, flashy, buttony things. I would like to see it up and running some time just to say I've seen it.

Now for Ubuntu. The install was quick and easy. Running updates (134 of them) only took 25 mins. That's impressive compared to the few hours it took with Fedora. So far I haven't had any problems whatsoever and I've only been on it for an hour and a half!

YAY UBUNTU!!

In the book I'm reading (i noticed almost all of my pics are missing from wordpress includint the one if this book…..) called Two Days Longer, there is a story about Jean Driscoll.

She was born with spinial bifidia which is a disorder where the spinal cord does not fully attach. It was predicted that she'd never live a full life and be dependent on her parents. She was very determined though and even taught herself to ride a bike and walk with leg braces. It was riding the bike that was her downfall though bc she ended up in a horrible accident that dislocated one of her hips. The docs ordered surgery and she had to sit in a full body cast for a year. When the cast came off, she was told she'd never ever be able to walk again.

Through another season of trial and disappointment, she finally went back to high school at the age of 15 in a wheel chair. It was then that she realized her passion for wheel chair sports. Fastforward to the 1990's – she wins the Boston Marathon wheelchair division, sets 3 world records in the olympics and wins countless gold, silver, and bronze medals through the decade. When she misses the 2000 Olympics time trial by .13 seconds she retires and gets a masters in occupational therapy and founded an organization that helps disabled people realize their athletic potential.

Here's a pic of her doing what she does best: Jean winning the Boston Marathon
She has a website as well

At the end of her story in my book was this simple quote which gave me chills and challenged my heart:

"Adversity causes some men to break; others to break records." ~William A. Ward

SWEET

ever been to Vimeo?  You should check it out.  It's a community not unlike photobucket or flickr.  What makes it cool?  It's a community of videographers and they've loaded their shorts onto this site.  I've seen some cool stuff.  You don't have to join to view so go ahead and check it out.

While you're at it check out Eyespot!!

YAY now you can be a nerd like me.

Update on the video… I've got the first min made of a 3.3 min song!

first things first….this guy is amazing!!

other than that…i've got nothing…i suppose i could share a song that's kinda defining my life right now…
I'm going to preface it by sharing that I used to despise Switchfoot…i thought they were dumb, then one day i sarted listening to them again and this song came on and i was like whoa!!

So here it is…the definition of my life as of now…..

Learning to Breathe by Switchfoot

Hello, good morning, how ya do?
What makes your rising sun so new?
I could use a fresh beginning too
All of my regrets are nothing new

So this is the way
that I say that I need You
This is the way
This is the way

That I'm learning to breathe
I'm learning to crawl
I'm finding that You and
You alone can break my fall
I'm living again, awake and alive
I'm dying to breathe in these abundant skies

Hello, good morning, how ya been?
Yesterday left my head kicked in
I never thought I could fall like that
Never knew that I could hurt this bad

I'm learning to breathe
I'm learning to crawl
I'm finding that You and
You alone can break my fall
I'm living again, awake and alive
I'm dying to breathe in these abundant skies

there's actually another one that ties into this one too….it kinda finishes what was unsaid in this song
Dare You to Move by Switchfoot

Welcome to the planet
Welcome to existence
Everyone’s here
Everyone’s here
Everybody’s watching you now
Everybody waits for you now
What happens next
What happens next

I dare you to move
I dare you to move
I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
Like today never happened
Today never happened before

Welcome to the fallout
Welcome to resistance
The tension is here
Tension is here
Between who you are and who you could be
Between how it is and how it should be

I dare you to move
I dare you to move
I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
Like today never happened
Today never happened

Maybe redemption has stories to tell
Maybe forgiveness is right where you fell
Where can you run to escape from yourself?
Where you gonna go?
Where you gonna go?
Salvation is here

are YOU in the loop?

I shall begin this scintillating post by saying that I finally have my very own copy of Sony Acid and it ROCKS!! (no pun intended!)  Expect a nice review over the next few days.  I am very happy with the product.  You should get it too.

On to other matters.  Photobucket.  :)   Apparently they have a software for "filmloop".  It's like a p-2-p network for sharing, broadcasting, getting pics.  You dl it right to your desktop and BAM there it is.  They have a better more interesting review on the product.  It's http://www.filmloop.com/whatis.html .  Check it out!

And i ask, can flickr do that?  i don't think so 8-)

"In the inner chambers of your heart, God steps past all your talent and hard work — all that you would think he values. He goes straight for the messy, broken places in you because it's there that you can truly discover him. This is the way he frees your heart to love, to risk, to grab hold of life for the joy that's there."

THANKS JEN FOR THE REMINDER!!!
